This one has been on my radar for a very long time and it's finally getting released on April 24th and I can't wait. Just in time for the Easter long weekend - so you can guess what I'll be doing.

Tempest Rising is a classic-style RTS set on a post-nuclear Earth, where three factions battle for control of a powerful new resource. Inspired by the golden era of real-time strategy, it combines traditional base-building gameplay with modern visuals and performance.

Take command of the Global Defense Forces or the Tempest Dynasty in two full-length campaigns (11 missions each), each offering strategic depth, unit customization, and a unique approach to combat and economy. Master diverse tactics in both single player and multiplayer modes as you fight to control the mysterious Tempest vines spreading across the planet.

I've played the demo, and recently got a chance to interview the game designer - Brandon Casteel - for an episode of my podcast. To say I'm a fan would be an understatement. If you grew up playing the Command and Conquer games, this is a must play. Lots of talk about 'spiritual successor' has happened, and as much as I dislike the term, it's fitting for Tempest Rising.

Stick it on your Steam wishlist and purchase when it launches! You can also pre-purchase the deluxe edition and get access a full seven days early.

I’ve been seeing clips of it since last year, but I haven't played it . I miss that old Command and Conquer where you just build base and fight the enemy. And that's all. There is no nonsense updates every two days.

Tempest Rising could have easily been C&C 5. It carries the DNA proudly. We interviewed the game designer and he was unapologetic about comparisons made to Westwood's classics.

That interview is here:

That comparison does not even surprise me. Anybody that grew up grinding Command & Conquer would immediately notice the DNA in Tempest Rising. The base building, harvesting resources, amongst others. It's not this modern gaming where updates are dropped every now and then.

TR was a bit meh to me. I mean, its on okay game but it just felt generic. Like we had seen it all before. Of course we had seen it all before but the poijnt still stands. It's like there was zero effrot to make it fidderent to CnC games, right? I mean, they could have done so much more. Ya, I get that that was the point. They wanted to do a love letter to Westweood's classics, but it needed something a bit differenmt.
