RTS games have always been about juggling multiple things at once - building, managing resources, controlling armies - but have they gone too far? Some say modern RTS games are harder to get into than ever, with deep mechanics, huge battles, and economy systems that overwhelm new players.

Would a simpler RTS bring more people into the genre, or is complexity the whole point? Are there any recent RTS games that actually strike the right balance between depth and accessibility, or is this just the way it is?

I think RTS games are little complicated for new players. It is not something like you go on shooting rampage, you need to gather resources and build plans on how you go on attacking or or you defend. You need multi tasking skills.

I don't know if they've "gone too far", mainly because I haven't played many games I'd class as "RTS" (or many new games, at least) for a while, so am not really up-to-date with what the trends are and what's happening in general in the genre.

I used to absolutely love playing Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars on the PC as a kid, which is the best kind of RTS game I can imagine. Easy to understand how to play, but very complicated to master. Still love it now, miss playing it!

I think some MOBAs are much more complicated than many RTS games.
