Sid Meier's Civ series is a tour de force, with seven titles in the main series and numerous off-shoots. This is the game which coined the phrase, "just one more turn" and we covered the series in Critical Moves Episode 17.
Civilization 7 wasn't the best received game of all time, the reviews on Steam are 'mixed' which is likely disappointing for developer Firaxis Games, however Take-Two president Karl Slatoff, reported that Civilization VII set a “new franchise record for pre-orders," and the game has an average of 28,249 concurrent players over the last 30 days. It's also reported that Civ 7 sold very well on consoles, being held from the top spot by EA Sports FC 25 but selling better than Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. That's not bad for a traditionally PC-based game.
The question, however, is can anyone best Civ? Humankind tried, it was touted as a Civ-killer prior to poor launch performance. Old World is well regarded in 4X circles. Yet Civ remains at the top of the tree in the 4X space.
