General Should developers release official modding tools at launch?

The developers should release modding tools immediately. It's the community that keep many games alive after the hype dies down. I was literally talking about this today because some companies behave like fans are criminals for trying to improve their games. Meanwhile old RTS titles survived for years because modders didn't abandon them. One custom map can revive a dead game overnight.

Developers that fight modders are fighting free labour. Look at how expensive gaming is now and yet communities still volunteer their time to improve games. Release the tools and let people do their best with it. Some of the best experiences I've had came from fan-made content, not the official updates.
