I was replaying an old RTS and honestly fan-made patches deserve more respect. Some developers abandon games immediately after launch, then random community legends start fixing the bugs for free. One patch made for Generals Zero Hour literally made the game smoother on my current laptop than the official version. Communities sometimes understand games better than the companies that made them. If fans truly love a game, they can revive it completely.

To be honest, some fan communities deserve salaries. There are games the developers abandoned faster. Then fans come in and repair the bugs, improve balance and even add content. That's the passion. One old RTS I played became stable only after installing a community patch. Without those people, plenty of classics would have disappeared completely.
