A lot of RTS games are based of one war or another. This was why the concept of American Civil War wasn't left out with the development of RTS games. In this regard, I would say that Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) is going to be the best American Civil War based RTS game I've played...
Real time strategy games have a strong background in World War II. A lot of RTS games have been developed based on WWII concepts and events. Company of Heroes is one of the best WWII based RTS game I've played.
What's your favourite top 3 World War II RTS games?
Company of Heroes is my all time favourite when it comes to RTS games. With how this game is set in WWII era, its focus on squad-based combat, destructible environments, and realistic physics makes it a top notch RTS like no other I've played. Another one that came very close is Command &...
Seriously, I would say yes about how tough RTS games are to new gamers who started playing it for the first time because that was exactly how I felt when I switched over to RTS based games. They felt completely different from other games.
I would have picked Civilization IV as the best 4X game ever made because it's that good but since I'm someone who's more interested in sci-fi based games, Master of Orion 2 will take that spot for me because of its tight focus and sci-fi make up.
If you looked very closely, you're going to observe my screen name and that should tell you how much I love this game franchise. I've already played the previous games and can't wait to get my hands on Space Marine III.
I don't think Warcraft 3 feels outdated based on how good the game have been since 2002 it was released. It depends on what you're looking for when playing RTS games, if it's nostalgia or RTS history that you're after, then Warcraft 3 is still a big gem.
The Terran is my favourite race in StarCraft II because they’re well known about their grit, how good they are with guns, and also their high level of adaptability. It's what makes them strive and survive after a botched colonization effort.
When you don't know anything about how to manage resources in real time strategy games, there's no way you're going to be successful in the game because even in the easiest RTS games, resources management is paramount.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of remakes and remasters unless they are going to do it well because most of the time, they end up making a mess of a game especially with a remake. But I wouldn't mind having a remaster of Rise of Nations.
This is a feature real time strategy game developers have already added to so many of their games long time ago. There are so many RTS games that hav RPG elements such as Warcraft III, Stormgate, Dune: Spice Wars and They Are Billions.
I have played Stormgate. It's a very good RTS which is also free-to-play. It's set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi universe and what makes it so good is how it incorporates old-school RTS tactics with modern ones.
